About james McClatchy
James B. McClatchy, the patriarch of the prominent newspaper family whose company included The Modesto Bee, designated three Central Valley community foundations to receive funds upon his passing in 2006.
A lifelong resident of the Central Valley, Mr. McClatchy had a deep affinity for Sacramento, Stanislaus, and Fresno counties. He requested that a scholarship fund be set up to help support Bee employees and their families in pursuit of higher education opportunities.
Fund Purpose
The James McClatchy Scholarship Fund was established to help fund higher education for the employees and the children/grandchildren/great grandchildren of employees at the Modesto Bee.
Requirements
Current employee of The Modesto Bee with a minimum of five years of continuous employment OR a past employee who left in “good standing”
Child or grandchild of current or past employees of The Modesto Bee (must meet requirements listed above)
Student at an accredited two- or four-year college or university
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
Award Amount
$1,000 - $4,000
Selection
Stanislaus Community Foundation staff will select recipients annually based on the scholarship criteria.
