Mark Borges

Mark Borges (he/him) is currently serving as an Executive Fellow with the California Natural Resources Agency. He recently graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) in the spring of 2020 and received a degree in Environmental Management and Protection with minors in Sustainable Agriculture, Agricultural Leadership, and Water Science. While at Cal Poly, he served a variety of roles in the university’s student government program housed within Associated Students, Inc. – a 501©3 non-profit with a $19 million operating budget – including chairman of the organization’s Board of Directors and President/CEO. During his tenure as President, he led efforts to register more students to vote than any other public or private institution in California, chaired numerous committees in collaboration with campus administrators and community leaders, and expressed the concerns of students regarding virtual learning prompted by COVID-19. He has also been unapologetically out about his sexuality as a gay man since 2018.

Mark comes to the NextGen with experience as an intern with E. & J. Gallo winery for three summers in Quality Assurance, Corporate Engineering, and Viticulture respectively.

In his free time, Mark tries to be intentional in centering wellness and mindfulness. He also enjoys visiting art museums, hiking in state and national parks, and researching vegan recipes to cook. Mark is excited to utilize Next Gen as an opportunity to uplift non-profit organizations in the Stanislaus area.

As a NextGen on Board Fellow, Mark is serving a two-year term on River Partners’ Board of Directors beginning July 2021.
